Oracle Finalises Sun Deal

On January 27, 2010, Oracle announced it finalised its acquisition of Sun. With the addition of servers, storage, SPARC processors, the Solaris operating system, Java, and the MySQL database to Oracle's portfolio of database, middleware, and business applications, the combined organisation will hold a strong position in the industry. Their plan is to continue to develop open systems...

But remember that HP now supports the Solaris operating system on HP Proliant server and blade systems, enabling organisations to continue with familiar Sun software while using reliable hardware from HP. This option has a unified support approach while giving companies the longer term assurance that their hardware will be backed by the stability and professionalism of HP.

Lenovo adds low-cost model to ThinkServer range

Lenovo has added a new model to its ThinkServer range, claiming to offer strong performance with reliability, energy efficiency and improved management features for small businesses. The ThinkServer TS 200v is easy to set up and manage and includes "enterprise-class" features such as memory error correction and inbuilt RAID protection, Lenovo said.

Symantec buys PGP and GuardianEdge

At the InfoSecurity show in London at the end of April Symantec annouced its acquisition of both PGP and GuardianEdge. The technologies will complement Symantec's existing portfolio, adding encryption capabilities for full-disk, removable media, email, file, folder and smartphones.
