Welcome to our quarterly newsletter which this time focuses on the green debate. Looming government regulations and rising energy costs are conspiring to push "Green" initiatives up the corporate agenda. This issue of InFocus assesses the issues and introduces some ways in which companies can save money while going green. I hope that at least some of the pragmatic suggestions we make can benefit your business. At Trustco we're deploying several strategies and have already started to see the difference.

Trustco is ideally positioned to see new technologies as they become available, while having access to them so we can help to guide your decision making processes.

In this edition we're looking at:

  • New Trustco services
  • Whether the industry is ready for eco-initiatives
  • Our top Green tips

We look forward to helping you grow your business.

Technical Services: Backfill

Good technical staff are hard to find - how can you help to retain key individuals?
Businesses invest greatly in attracting, training and retaining key technical staff. These individuals build up valuable organisational knowledge which is often lost in the event that they leave the company.

While these staff are in the ideal position to maintain and support existing business systems, these functions are often seen as less interesting than new business projects. By outsourcing the deployment of new systems you may de-motivate your in-house staff, increasing the likelihood of them being attracted to alternative career opportunities.

An alternative approach is offered by Trustco. Our technical specialists are available to backfill while your staff are being trained on new products and during new systems deployment. Of course we can also cover other extended absences. Our approach enables your staff to get involved with new systems at the earliest stages - maintaining their interest levels while providing them with the best systems knowledge.

Trustco can provide the level of support you need for as long as you need it. Whether it's telephone support or on-site service we will design the package to meet your needs.

Going Green - Ready For Business Prime-Time?

While green issues dominate the news, it takes more than some media hype to encourage businesses to invest in ecologically motivated programmes. We may now, however, be close to the tipping point. A number of pressures are mounting on businesses to the point where tangible financial benefits can now be seen. These pressures are:

  • Client demands
  • Brand perception
  • Cost of energy
  • Forthcoming regulation

Windows Server 2008 - This Spring?
Microsoft will release Windows 2008 Server as the direct successor to Windows 2003 Server in the spring of this year. The new server OS, code named Longhorn, shares the same kernel with Windows Vista and incorporates many additions compared to its predecessor.

Ready To Switch?
While upgrading to the latest and greatest operating system version tends to be a decision taken with due care, consideration and waiting for the first service pack, Windows Server 2008 has one major ace up its sleeve - the built-in virtualisation capabilities. An early upgrade may be a brave decision but the arguments for virtualisation are compelling - a decision to evaluate at an earlier stage than normal perhaps.
